Dodge Viper
The Dodge Viper was first
tested as a prototype in 1989 with two pre-production models used
for the Indianapolis 500 in 1991. By 1992 the
Viper was on sale as the soft-top RT/10 Roadster. There were no
driver aids such as ABS or traction control and no frills to reduce
weight. There were side zip up curtains instead of windows and no
exterior door handles to reduce weight. And with a 400hp V8 the
Viper could hit 97km/h (60mph) in 4.5seconds and a top speed of
315km/h (196mph) could be reached.
Today the fourth generation
Viper has more than 600hp from the retuned 8.4liter V8.
10 years of
improvement allows the Viper to hit 97km/h (60mph) in 3.5 seconds
and hit a top speed of around 320kph (200mph). Better
suspension, brakes, and other components allow the Viper to be
easier to control at high speed.
