| Nissan GT-R

The Nissan GT-R, new for 2008 is an piece
of advanced technology stuffed with all kinds of gizmos in every
corner from it’s amazing 4-wheel Drive ATTESA E-TS
system to its unique speed limiter on the Japan-Spec models which limits the
top speed to 180km/h (112mph) on public roads but allows a top speed of around
310km/h (190mph) on race tracks certified by Nissan.
The GT-R was
made for the track as it has a long list of track goodies such as
launch control, a display that shows everything from
sideways G-Forces to oil temperature and pressure guages. The
display also doubles
as an Navigation/Entertainment system. A panel in
the dash sets the transmission shifts, shock absorbers and the
Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC-R) into three settings - Normal,
Comfort, or Race.
The VR38 engine and 6-speed dual clutch
transmission are hand-made which makes each one a little
different in terms of horsepower and torque. The GT-R is also
equipped with many safety features such as special GT-R exclusive
run flat tires that allow 80km of driving at 80km/h while deflated,
heated mirrors, pop hood system for better pedestrian safety, and
LED rear taillights. With all these features the GT-R comes at about
$70,000USD.
All the advanced technology
contributes to an 0.27 Drag Coefficient and an
0-96km/h (0-60mph) time of 3.2 seconds. This performance is proved by
a time of
7:29 around the Nurburbgring making it one of the fastest cars ever
to lap the track. Nissan hopes to break the production car record
with the GT-R Spec-V coming in 2010 and it will be more powerful at
550hp and 200 pounds (91kg) lighter.
